The Carolina Hurricanes scored the first goal but the Pittsburgh Penguins rebounded with back-to-back goals 30 seconds apart from Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby and coasted to a 6-2 victory in Game 3. Matt Cullen got things started for the desperate Canes scoring four minutes into the first period, bringing the raucous crowd to their feet and giving them hope of being able to contain the Pens. Two minutes later Evgeni Malkin quieted the crowd by picking up his first goal of the game on a Sidney Crosby assisted power play goal and tying the game at one. With less than a minute left in the first Sid the Kid scored to put the Pens ahead and 30 seconds later Malkin scored his second goal of the game and giving him his sixth straight multi-point game and giving the Pens 3-1 lead. The second period was quiet with no scoring but in the third Sergei Samsonov gave the Hurricanes a little bit of hope scoring two minutes in but they never got any real momentum going and were unable to the puck into the net again. Evgeni Malkin picked up his third point of the game giving Ruslan Fedotenko a nice setup, passing the puck between his legs so Fedotenko could wrist it pass Cam Ward for a 4-2 lead. Craig Adams picked up an empty-net goal and Bill Guerin scored on power play goal with only seconds left in the game. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 32 shots for the Pens and Carolina goalie Cam Ward stopped 34 shots. Crosby(14) and Malkin(12) are only two goals away from breaking the record for most postseason goals scored by teammates. Only two teams in history have come back from a 3-0 deficit and the last was the 1975 New York Islanders who did it against the Penguins. The Pens have dominated this series but they need to keep the pressure on and take this series on Tuesday so they can rest up and get Sergei Gonchar ready for whoever in the Stanley Cup Finals.
