Evgeni Malkin finally woke up in the playoffs record his first career playoff hat trick in leading the Pittsburgh penguins to 7-4 rout of the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Sidney Crosby scored the first goal of the game for a record tying sixth time this postseason less than two minutes into the game. A couple of minutes later the Canes would tie it up on a Chad LaRose goal. Malkin recorded his first goal of the night but Carolina scored 2 unanswered goals to end the first period. In the second Maxime Talbot and Chris Kunitz would put the Penguins ahead going into the third period, with Talbot scoring the game tying goal and Kunitz put the Pens ahead with only seconds left in the period. In the third the Canes would not go away tying the game once again this time the goal came from Patrick Eaves. Malkin put the Pens ahead for good while picking up his second goal of the game and four minutes later Malkin recorded his first career playoff hat trick on an unassisted goal to put Pittsburgh ahead for good. MMMMRRRRR.Kennedy, Tyler Kennedy picked up an empty net goal to make the final score 7-4. Malkin's parents were in attendance once again and it is amazing what he has been able to do with his parents in attending the game. Last year with his parents at the games he had a stretch at the end of the season where he carried the team into the playoffs, this year he had a similar stretch again helping the team make the playoffs, and then of course last night he had the hat trick. The Pens have pretty much dominated this series but the are going to be tested more so over the next few games with them traveling to Carolina. Game 3 is tomorrow night.
