Kobe Bryant scored 40 points and the Los Angeles Lakers shut down Dwight Howard en rout of routing the Orlando Magic 100-75 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. The Lakers quickly erased memories of last years bitter ending to their season by jumping all over the Magic and making sure history will not repeat itself. Kobe had his best game of the post season scoring 40 points along with 8 rebounds, and 8 assists, Bryant scored 16 in the first half to give the Lakers a 10 point half time lead, then he scored 18 in the third to put the game out of reach by 24. Pau Gasol contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds, and Lamar Odom had 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Lakers. When a Phil Jackson coached team wins Game 1 they are 43-0 all time, so the Magic have already lost the battle. Dwight Howard had 12 points and 15 rebounds but on 1-6 shooting. Against the Cavs the Magic could not be stopped from the 3pt line but in Game 1 they shot 8-23 from beyond the arc. Hedo Turkoglu added 13 points for the Magic and Mickeal Pietrus came off the bench to score 14 points but they got no help elsewhere. Jameer Nelson came back from what was thought to be a season ending injury to score 6 points but he was supposed to give the Magic a much needed lift but he gave them very little from that standpoint. I figuerd the Lakers would take this series in 6 but after the way Kobe played it might be over in 4. Game 2 is Sunday night in star studded L.A.
