Same story different game, Red Wings defeat Penguins 3-1, lead series 2-0...

The Pittsburgh Penguins quieted the raucous crowd at Joe Louis Arena early but The Detroit Red Wings would have the last laugh defeating the Penguins 3-1 to take a 2-0 series lead into Pittsburgh. Evgeni Malkin struck first for Pittsburgh wristing a shot towards Chris Osgood but Detroit defense man Brad Stuart deflected the puck past Osgood for the first goal of the game on the first power play of the game to give the Pens their only lead in the series so far. Early in the second period Jonathan Ericsson tied it up for the Red Wings and then Valterri Filppula put the Wings ahead for good by scoring his first goal of the series making it 2-1 Wings. In the third rookie Justin Abdelkader scored the insurance goal once again sealing the victory for Detroit. Pittsburgh had plenty of chances including a Sidney Crosby has a shot go off the crossbar, Bill Guerin had another shot bounce of the crossbar, and Crosby had a shot that was reviewed and upheld after he got a rebound and knocked the puck towards the goal but a Wings defender dove on the puck preventing it from crossing the line. Evgeni Malkin finished the game in locker room after fighting with Henrik Zetterberg and missed a one game suspension after the NHL reviewed the fight ruling... "None of the criteria in this rule applied," Campbell said in a statement. "Suspensions are applied under this rule when a team attempts to send a message in the last five minutes by having a player instigate a fight. A suspension could also be applied when a player seeks retribution for a prior incident. Neither was the case here." Chris Osgood has once again been the best player on the ice stopping 31 shots and showing the young Marc-Andre Fleury how to win a championship. The Penguins aren't out of this series, with a few breaks in their favor, better coaching, and better defense(both from Fleury and also the defense not making turnovers) the Penguins will be right back in the series.
RED WINGS LEAD SERIES 2-0 OVER THE PENGUINS

GO PENGUINS!
