Celtics sign Wallace, Raptors sign Turkoglu, and Mavs re-sign Kidd...

In the busy NBA offseason the Boston Celtics helped their chances of making it back to the NBA Finals by signing former Detroit Piston Rasheed Wallace to a 2-year deal at the league's mid level exception worth around $5.5 million. Wallace will help bolster a team that lost Game 7 at home to the Orlando Magic without All-star forward Kevin Garnett. Rasheed will help the Celtics up front against the likes of Shaq in Cleveland and Dwight Howard in Orlando. Throughout his career he has averaged 15 points and 6.9 boards during his 14 year NBA career. He was the missing piece for the Pistons coming over in a trade in 2003 and helping them knock off the 3 time defending NBA champions the Los Angeles Lakers.

After verbally committing to the Portland Trail Blazers Hedo Turkoglu changed his mind and has decided to sign with the Toronto Raptors. Turkoglu opted out of his contract with the defending Eastern Conference champion Orlando Magic and was expected to sign with the Portland Trail Blazers but he made a head scratching move by signing with the floundering Raptors. This move doesn't make sense for a few reasons, first he was on a winning team and he was a big part of the winning, then he is expected to sign with another playoff team in Portland which was smart, but now he is joining the Raptors who are going to lose their best player in Chris Bosh after next season. So other than for financial reasons this move does not make sense but I guess money makes the world go round.

And in a somewhat expected move Jason Kidd will re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks. There were rumors that he may sign with the New York Knicks but they weren't willing to pay enough to lure him away from a contender since they are preparing for next years free agents. I wish the Cavs would have made a stronger play for him but they are more worried about keeping Lebron so they probably want as much money as possible. Kidd fits in well in Dallas and he gives them their best chance to win a title even though it's not going to happen. All of these signings of course won't become official until Wednesday so who knows what will happen before then.
