The Baltimore Ravens have signed Terrell Suggs to a new 6-year $63 million deal. The contract guarantees Suggs will paid $33.1 million between this season and next through a signing bonus and other option bonuses, this deal is second behind only Peyton Manning's $34 million signing bonus. The deal makes Suggs the highest paid linebacker in NFL history, I wonder how defensive captain Ray Lewis feels about this. During Suggs' six year career he accumulated 53 sacks while playing at the outside linebacker position and defensive end depending on the schemes.
Look Terrell Suggs is a dangerous player who plays through injuries and he gives his all every game but I really don't think he is worth this kind of money. He averages only 8 sacks a season and he hasn't come close to the numbers he put up in his rookie year. You would think with all the talent that has been around him he would be putting up at least 10 plus sacks each year. How is he the highest paid linebacker in the league when he isn't even the best linebacker on his team? He hasn't approached 100 tackles at all in his career and that is a lot of money for a situational player. The Ravens have a good track record with their players so they obviously think he is worth the money but it might create some controversy with Ray Lewis and the rest of the locker room. I think the money should have been spent elsewhere, like replacing Derrick Mason and finding a true #1 wide receiver.
