The Cleveland Browns traded away their much maligned wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets for two players and two draft picks. The Browns received receiver Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnick, and a conditional third round draft pick( it can increase to a second round pick if Edwards catches a certain number of balls) and fifth round pick. On the season Edwards has 10 catches 139 yards 0 touchdowns and is coming off his game with no catches. Stuckey has 11 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown, Trusnick is a special teams ace and will be an immediate backup at linebacker in Cleveland.
This is a good move for both teams on paper. The Browns really needed to get rid of Edwards because he clearly didn't want to be there and aside from the 2007 season, where he made the Pro Bowl with 80 catches for 1,289 yards and 16 TDs, he was more of a hindrance with his poor attitude and even more poor hands. He would routinely drop key passes for touchdowns or on third downs killing drives. Plus he recently got into a fight with a friend of Lebron James, which is just one of a few off the field problems that he has had over his career.
For the Jets they hope Edwards will provide a reliable down field threat for rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Edwards has the big play capabilities that the Jets feel they need to get their passing game going to compliment a tough aggressive defense and a solid ground game. I personally don't like Edwards that much though, I think he drops way too many balls and even when he has his good season he still hurt the a lot of times and he doesn't make very good choices off the field. Edwards gets flustered too easily and if you get physical with him he will be thrown off his game and will mope and sulk around the field until something finally goes away, essentially he rides the emotional waves too much. He is in New York now where he will fit right in a probably be welcomed with open arms.
