The Washington Capitals fell behind early but rebounded to take a 1-0 series lead with a 3-2 victory. Sidney Crosby gave the Pittsburgh Penguins a 1-0 lead only 4 minutes into the game but the Caps would close out the second half of the first period scoring two goals including an Alex Ovechkin goal during a 5-on-3. Evgeni Malkin set up the tying goal feeding Mark Eaton for a goal mid way through the game. Moments later Washington goalie Simeon Varlamov made a game changing save on a Crosby shot. Sid the Kid and Chris Kunitz had a 2-on-1 and Kunitz set Crosby up with a shot on Varlamov who was out of position, but he was able to get his stick right on the goal line forcing the puck in the opposite direction denying Crosby his second goal of the game. The Caps scored the go ahead goal only a minute into the third and the Penguins were not able to get anything going losing Game 1 3-2. The Pens were 0-6 on the power play making them 1-18 in their last five games with the man advantage. The Penguins were right there with the Caps the entire game but they just couldn't muster up enough to win the game. Hopefully they will rebound and win Game 2 on Monday.
