The U.S. Open starts today, I bet you Tiger wins...

The U.S. Open starts today and Tiger Woods will be defending his crown from last year in his 2nd major after having knee surgery, finishing 6th in the Masters. Tiger is coming off a win at the Memorial and he usually has a mental edge over the field but they especially can't feel too confident knowing he won this event last year on a bad knee and then won his previous tournament still adjusting to the repaired knee. I'll always take Tiger over the field because the only way he really loses is when he beats himself or the course beats him, which Bethpage Black has really good chance of doing since it is super long. Phil Mickelson is playing for his wife who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer so that might give him extra motivation but will it be enough to get him past Tiger? My guess is no. There is not really a name in the field that I would feel comfortable selecting to win this year other than Tiger, the other guys are good but in Tiger's absence no one stepped up and took control and if you can't do it while he's gone what makes you think they will do it now. Whatever happened to Vijay Singh? He was the only guy with enough intestinal fortitude to stand up to Tiger but that was like 5 years ago and since then he is nowhere near as good or mentally tough. Tiger has played in 7 events this year, he's won 2 and has finished in the top 10 in 6 of those events. He is going for his 4th U.S. Open title and his 15th major overall trailing Jack Nicklaus by 4. Did I mention that I think Tiger Woods will win the U.S. Open? Anyway golf during Father's day weekend is always fun, usually exciting and should be that way this year, plus it's the only sporting event I care about for the next 3 months. Go Tiger!
