Mavericks to get Marion in 4 team trade, McDyess headed to San Antonio...

The Dallas Mavericks have struck a deal with the Toronto Raptors to bring Shawn Marion to Dallas in a four team deal. Marion is expected to get a five-year deal worth an estimated $42 million from the Mavs. In the deal Dallas gets Marion and Kris Humphries from the Raptors and Greg Buckner from the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies get Jerry Stackhouse and cash, the Raptors will receive Devean George, Antoine Wright, and cash which turns the Hedo Turkoglu into a sign and trade deal for the Raptors and Magic. The only benefit for the Magic is that now they create a valuable trade exception worth around $7 million and can be used in the future.
This is a great move for the Mavs and they didn't give much up in the deal. This gives the Mavs their fourth former all-star caliber player in Marion, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, and Josh Howard. Although he wasn't as productive in his brief stints in Miami and Toronto as he was in Phoenix, Marion has the potential to be the missing piece to put the Mavs back into the NBA Finals. Marion is a big body who rebound and he can score from just about anywhere inside the 3-point line. He also brings in playoff experience to a team that needs as much help as it can get with the Lakers and Spurs getting significantly better.

Antonio McDyess saw the writing on the wall in Detroit so he decided to sign with the San Antonio Spurs for 3-years worth about $15 million. The Spurs bolstered their front line by signing the 34-year old McDyess after the Spurs gave up Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas to the Bucks in the Richard Jefferson trade. The Spurs felt they needed front court help after being eliminated by the Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs and they should get that help with McDyess who averaged 9.6 rebounds and 9.8 rebounds last year for Detroit. This move helps San Antonio but the Jefferson trade has a bigger impact for the Spurs. The Western conference is once again loaded and at least 4 deep on teams that could realistically have a shot at winning the NBA title.
